"So a lot of my work tends to be subversive. I wrote, you know, Avenue Q, which is the grown-up puppet show with the ‘sexy’ and all those things. And while I do think there is a certain subversive element to Bring It On, I also have a strong feeling that, in this day and age, to manifest joy in an audience is subversive. To create happiness and leave people grinning ear-to-ear is sort of the most rebellious thing you can do nowadays."
